Spc. Sam Ross, 21, 82nd Airborne

Wounded May 18th, 2003 in Baghdad when a bomb blew up during a munitions disposal operation, leaving him blind and an amputee.
Photographed in the woods near his trailer home in western Pennsylvania.

It was the best experience of my life.


Pfc. Alain Jermaine Lewis, 23, 3rd Infantry Division

Wounded July 16th, 2003 in Baghdad, when the humvee he was driving hit a land mine, blowing off his legs, burning his face and breaking his arm. He was delivering ice to other soldiers at the time.

Lt. Jordan Johnson, 23, 1st Armored Division

Injured July 20th, 2003 when her humvee crashed and flipped, smashing her legs and tailbone, and sending her into a coma.

Cpl. Tyson Johnson III, 22, a mechanic with Military Intelligence

Wounded September 20, 2003 in a mortar attack on the Abu Ghraib prison. He suffered massive internal injuires and is 100% disabled.
