Purple Hearts is a series of portraits and interviews with American veterans seriously wounded in the Iraq War. The portraits were made in their homes, in veterans hospitals and on military bases across the United States from 2003 - 2004. The series was published in book form as Purple Hearts - Back from Iraq by Trolley, 2004. The series exists as a 9 minutes photo film and as a feature feature length documentary film made by VPRO in the Netherlands and broadcast in Europe and the USA
Exhibitions include: Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Honolulu Museum of Art, Portland Art Museum, Massachusetts College of Art, Bernstein Gallery, Princeton University, Brooklyn Museum, Museum of Photography, Charleroi, and Photokina.
